Goals should be set in six arrears…

  • Spiritual goals – every person needs to set annual goals. Most people don’t grow because they don’t plan to grow. The person who expects nothing is seldom disappointed. Perhaps we need to set a spiritual goal of studying bible prophecy for a year or learning a new method of Bible study. It could be that we should spend this year learning what prayer is all about & practicing how to do it. Maybe this is the year we should give to ministering to several new families in our church. We might plan to have them to dinner, or have them join us on a picnic, or take them on an outing.
  • Mental goals – what is it that we are planning to learn this year? Why not go back to college in the evening to take some courses? We should stay on the cutting edge of learning. We should consider making a reading list & then working our way through selected books during the year. We might better ourselves at our jobs if we were to follow some course of study. We must turn of the TV & start learning. We must become a participant, not just a spectator. We can do it!
  • Physical goals – we all need some physical goals. We all need to get on shape & stay in shape. What do we want to accomplish this year in our weight control programme, how about an exercise programme? - jogging, walking, or whatever? As part of our physical goals, we should give some attention in our lives to recreation & rest. Vance Havner said, “Come apart, before you come apart.”
  • Family goals – many people today seem to feel that if they provide a house to live in, clothes to wear, a school to learn, food to eat & a vacation for fun, that they are parenting. Parenting is preparing a child to become a mature adult & to live a Godly life. Parenting is making the effort to see that a child understands what self discipline is & how to exercise it. The greatest disservice a parent can do to his child is to fail to teach them how to live successful Godly lives. We should carefully think through our children’s schedule & see if what they are doing is really building something into them of if they are simply doing busy work so we feel good & fool ourselves into thinking that we are teaching them something.
  • Financial goals – every person & every family needs financial goals. If we don’t make the financial plans for ourselves, no one else will. Our potential for financial stability & security will double, triple & more if we begin to plan for it. People don’t secure their families’ future by accident. They set goals & make plans.
  • Social goals – people who have friends work at being friendly. Married couples should ask each other if they have unfulfilled social desires, some places they have always wanted to go. Couples should talk it over & set some social goals.
The importance of goal setting!!!

Why is setting goals so vital & so important? Setting your goals & taking the appropriate action steps in the basic key to a life of accomplishment. Few men ever accomplish anything great without setting goals for their lives.

Setting your goals, visualizing your plans & writing down a schedule is the first step towards guaranteed success in life

What are some mistaken concepts about goal setting?

  • Goal setting is not an idea, a wish, daydreaming or a fantasy running through your mind.
  • Goal setting is not a fantasy world.
  • Goal setting is writing down your God given purpose, your God given desires & the specific objectives you want to accomplish with your life & the necessary steps you intend to take to fulfill your objectives.
  • Goal setting is writing down the specifics of what you want to be, to do & to have this week, this month, this year, the next three years, the rest of your life.
  • Goal setting is writing down what you want to accomplish with your life & the steps you need to take to achieve your goals.
